If you want to know about schools that are on ASUU strike, this piece is for you.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is a trade union affiliated with the Nigerian Labour Congress.
It comprises the teaching staff of Nigerian federal and state universities.
Hence, lecturers of federal and state universities should be participating in the current strike.
However, lecturers of some state universities are not participating in the ongoing strike.
Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (formerly Anambra State University)
Lecturers of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (formerly Anambra State University), Igbariam, Anambra State are not part of the ongoing strike.
According to Sun News, students of the institution finished their first-semester examination on Friday, April 22, 2022.
The Public Relations Officer of the school, Harrison Madubueze, confirmed to journalists that the school is in session.
Furthermore, a lecturer in the institution confirmed that almost all lecturers of the university were working.
He said that they had no plan to be part of the strike.
Rivers State University (RSU)
Lecturers of Rivers State University are also not part of the ongoing strike.
They claimed that the grudges of ASUU are already fixed by the governor of the state.
In a meeting held on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, members of ASUU in the university refused to join the strike.
Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt
The Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt is another institution owned by the River State government.
Just like their counterparts at River State University, lecturers at the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education are not taking part in the current ASUU strike.
They also claimed that they are already enjoying what the national body of ASUU is fighting for.
Osun State University (UNIOSUN)
Also, Osun State University’s lecturers do not join the current strike.
ASUU chairman in the university, Dr Wende Olaosebikan, said that they have not discussed the strike.
Another lecturer claimed that they were earning more than their federal counterparts.
He said they started earning better when the governor extended the implementation of the new minimum wage to the school.
Kogi State University, Ayingba
Learning and teaching activities are currently going on at Kogi State University, Ayingba.
The state government banned union activities in higher institutions owned by the state in 2017.
As a result of this, lecturers of Kogi State University are not part of the strike.
Ebonyi State University (EBSU)
Academic activities are going on at the Ebonyi State University (EBSU).
Lecturers of the institution are not joining the strike.
The caretaker chairman of ASUU in the school, Dr Chinedu Nwambeke, said that the national body was not there for them in times of need.
As a result of this, they are not going to be part of the current strike.
All private universities in the country are carrying on with their full academic activities.
This is because lecturers in these schools are not members of ASUU.
Schools that are on ASUU strike are all federal and state universities except the ones mentioned above.
