President Muhammadu Buhari has made an appeal to striking university lecturers to call off their strike.
He was speaking on Thursday at the 19th edition of the National Productivity Day and the conferment of the National Productivity Order of Merit Award (NPOM).
Forty-eight prestigious Nigerians, as well as organisations in both the public and private sectors, received awards for their high productivity, hard work and excellence.
President Buhari said he had ordered his Chief of Staff, Hon. Ministers of Labour and Employment, Education, Finance, Budget and National Planning to resume negotiations with the lecturers and other university workers.
He said his government would not relent in raising the standard of education in Nigeria.
Furthermore, he reiterated the fact that the nation’s future relies on the standard of her educational system.
He claimed that his administration has reduced the number of out of school children from 10.1million in 2019 to 6.9 million in 2020.
