EPL 2022/23 Season: New Things To Look Out For

The English Premier League (EPL) 2022/23 season begins on Friday, August 5th, 2022.

The first game will take place between Crystal Palace and Arsenal by 8 pm.

This season is starting a week ahead of last season due to the World Cup that will take place later this year.

It is the first time a winter World Cup will be taking place, and this is understandable because Qatar will host the tournament.

Consequently, EPL games will pause after match-round 16 which would take place on November 12 and 13.

This will enable players to honour their countries’ World-cup call-ups.

Thereafter, the EPL will resume on Boxing day since the World Cup would have ended by December 18.

All things being equal, the league will end on May 28, 2023.

The Return of Five Substitutes Permanently

The rule favouring the substitution of five players in a game is now permanent.

In March, Premier League clubs voted in favour of the move to bring back the rule permanently.

Organizers introduced the rule after the Covid break but the clubs later voted against it.

It is now back and permanent, hence, managers can substitute up to five players in a Premier League game.
