Nottingham Forest have confirmed Sean Dyche as their new manager, stepping in after the departure of Ange Postecoglou. The former Everton boss, who once played for Forest’s youth teams, has signed a contract extending to the summer of 2027. Dyche will oversee his first game on Thursday against FC Porto in the Europa League.
Postecoglou was dismissed shortly after Forest suffered a 3-0 home defeat to Chelsea, leaving the club 18th in the Premier League with just five points from eight games. His 39-day tenure is now the shortest in Premier League history for a permanent manager dismissed mid-season.
Forest praised Dyche as a seasoned Premier League manager with “the right mix of character, tactical skill, and proven success” to guide the club forward. Being a former Forest youth player and local resident, Dyche also brings a deep connection to the club’s heritage and fans.
Dyche, 54, had been out of work since leaving Everton in January following a challenging run of results. He is widely recognized for his decade-long spell at Burnley (2012–2022), where he achieved two Championship promotions, multiple top-half Premier League finishes, and led the club to European football for the first time in over five decades. He also managed Watford briefly, gaining experience in top-flight English football.
Known for his pragmatic style and strong defensive organisation, Dyche faces the task of stabilizing a Forest squad that has struggled since the departure of Nuno Espirito Santo last September. After hosting Porto in the Europa League, Forest will travel to face high-flying Bournemouth in the Premier League on Sunday.
