Amazon Says Root Cause of Major Outage Fixed but Some Services Still Face ‘Significant Errors’

Amazon has announced that it has identified and corrected the technical issue responsible for a large-scale service disruption that affected parts of its online retail and cloud operations earlier Monday. Despite progress, the company noted that some users continue to encounter what it described as “significant errors” as recovery efforts continue.

The disruption temporarily impacted Amazon Web Services (AWS) and several consumer-facing systems across multiple regions. Customers using AWS reported login failures, data processing interruptions, and unstable server connections, while shoppers on Amazon’s retail platform faced slow page loads and delayed order confirmations.

According to an update on the AWS Service Health Dashboard, Amazon’s engineering teams have “resolved the root cause” but are still working to stabilize affected systems. “Some services continue to show higher-than-normal error rates, and we’re monitoring the recovery closely,” the company explained.

News of the outage quickly gained traction on social media platforms such as X (formerly Twitter), where thousands of users shared their experiences and concerns. Businesses that depend on AWS for hosting, storage, and online infrastructure also felt the impact — a reminder of how deeply embedded Amazon’s cloud network is in the global digital ecosystem.

Industry experts observed that while service disruptions within AWS are infrequent, the widespread reliance on Amazon’s cloud makes even brief outages highly consequential for companies and government clients worldwide.

By late evening, Amazon reported that most services were returning to normal and pledged to keep users informed until all systems were fully restored. “We appreciate our customers’ understanding as our teams work to ensure full functionality,” the company said.
