Atletico Madrid have filed an official complaint with UEFA ahead of their highly anticipated UEFA Champions League clash against Arsenal, following an unexpected facilities issue at the Emirates Stadium.
The LaLiga side trained at the stadium on Tuesday afternoon amid heavy rain, but players and staff were unable to use hot water after the session, forcing them to return to their hotel to shower and prepare for the match.
According to reports from Marca, Atletico immediately raised the problem with Arsenal staff shortly after arriving at the Emirates around 5:30 pm. However, the issue was not resolved during their time at the stadium, leaving the Spanish side frustrated.
Diego Simeone’s squad expressed shock that a modern venue like the Emirates could experience such a basic facilities problem, especially during one of Europe’s premier football competitions.
Following the incident, Atletico Madrid submitted a formal protest to UEFA, describing the situation as “unacceptable” for a stadium of Arsenal’s standing. The club emphasized that proper facilities are essential to ensure players can train and prepare adequately for high-level matches.
This complaint adds another layer of tension ahead of the Champions League encounter, with both teams now focused on delivering performance on the pitch while UEFA reviews the matter.
